First, we have a strong culture of respect between our medical and nursing staff. Open communication and sharing of information mean that you get to apply more of your technical clinical abilities than is the case in most hospitals. And because we are a teaching hospital, there is plenty of support for your clinical development.

Second, in addition to our multidisciplinary focus in clinical practice, teaching and research across all our specialist areas, we also have a basic philosophy of nursing evidence-based practice and auditing.

Anaesthetics Department:

Surgical procedures, acute pain and an acute resuscitation service
You'll care for patients undergoing general, regional and spinal anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery and work with anaesthetists to gain experience in using anaesthetic equipment. A post graduate program is available.

Emergency Department

24-hour Triage Assessment service (including resuscitation), acute and general management to assess emergency patients, and assistance for Medical Emergencies for ships at sea.
Opportunities to develop a range of skills in this challenging environment. A Post-Graduate Programme is available.

24-hour Recovery and Resucitation Unit

Pre-operative intervention, emergency resuscitation and immediate post operative care
Opportunities to develop your observational, assessment and decision making skills. A Post-Graduate Programme is available.

Intensive Care Unit:

You'll use the most modern technological support systems to manage patients who have experienced severe trauma or other major life-threatening events. A Post-Graduate Programme is available.

High Dependency Unit:

Opportunities to provide 24/7 intermediate care to acutely ill medical and surgical patients with complex post-operative care needs. A Post-Graduate Program is available.
